About Us

We invite you to join us for good food and interesting conversation. We call our gathering Canny Yem because we're trying to create a good home in Newcastle for folk to meet and spend time sharing with each other. We celebrate our wonderful differences.

We know we're not perfect but we're open to learning and discovering, and we always endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Canny Yem is for those with faith and those without faith. It's for those exploring faith and those who've lost faith. It's for those with big questions and those with doubts.

We don't know everything and we're certainly not experts, but we enjoy meeting with each other. So why not come along? We look forward to meeting you.

Our Events

We have made changes to how Canny Yem operates. Our Monthly Gatherings are on hold for the foreseeable future as we focus our energy on more targeted events throughout the year.

We continue to run our Rainbow Carols and Newcastle Pride events, and have added an Easter celebration to honour God's incredible love and sacrifice for us.

Who We Welcome

Canny Yem is a space for everyone. Whether you have strong faith, no faith, questions about faith, or have walked away from faith, you belong here.

We welcome LGBTQ+ folk, people exploring their identity, those with doubts, and anyone seeking genuine community and conversation.

Our gatherings bring together people from all backgrounds who value openness, respect and honest dialogue.

There are several ways to connect with Canny Yem. Join us at one of our annual events, help us plan and organise gatherings, or simply come along to meet new people.

We're always looking for volunteers to help with event planning, hospitality and creating a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.
